About This Project

A Spanish Modern Estate, Four and a Half Years in the Making Some homes begin with a set of plans. The Andalusian began with a feeling. Our clients already knew what home felt like to them. They loved the warmth, character, and Spanish influence of their existing residence and dreamed of carrying that same soul into a new home—one that would honor what they loved while allowing them to build on a much grander scale. Set across a beautiful 10-acre parcel, The Andalusian became that vision: a nearly 12,000-square-foot Spanish Modern estate, inspired by their original home but reimagined at almost twice the size. For four and a half years, Chic Interiors had the privilege of being part of this home from the ground up. What unfolded was a deeply layered design process—one that reached far beyond selecting finishes. Every material, fixture, architectural detail, piece of lighting, furnishing, and final styling element became part of one cohesive story. Built Around a Courtyard The architecture takes its cues from traditional Spanish estates, with the home forming a dramatic U-shape around a central courtyard. It creates a beautiful sense of arrival while allowing the interior spaces to remain connected to the landscape, fountains, and outdoor living beyond. Soaring ceilings—some reaching approximately 18 feet—are grounded by substantial wood beams and richly textured architectural details. Throughout the home, old-world influences are balanced with cleaner, more modern elements, creating spaces that feel collected and established rather than newly built. There is a sense of craftsmanship everywhere you look. Doors were imported, then individually hand-textured and stained on site, allowing each one to carry its own depth and variation. The home's custom exterior entry door was imported from Italy, creating a statement before you ever step inside. Outdoors, mosaics brought in from Mexico were incorporated into the fountains, adding another layer of authentic Spanish artistry to the estate. The Heart of The Andalusian And then there is the kitchen. Spanning approximately 35 feet, it was designed to command the scale of the home while still feeling like its most welcoming space. Two extraordinary 10-foot islands anchor the room, creating a kitchen that isn't simply meant for preparing meals—it was created for people to gather around. It is grand in proportion, yet intimate in purpose. That balance became one of the guiding principles throughout The Andalusian: impressive without feeling untouchable, refined without losing warmth, and luxurious while still unmistakably designed for family life. A Study in Detail The material palette was intentionally layered rather than perfectly matched. Hand-painted finishes live alongside marble and porcelain. Warm gold Brizo plumbing fixtures are mixed with contrasting metals rather than repeated throughout. Custom lighting was created to complement the extraordinary ceiling heights and architectural scale of the rooms. Texture, patina, stone, wood, metal, and artisan finishes work together throughout the residence, allowing each room to have its own identity while remaining connected to the home as a whole. And our involvement didn't end when construction did. Chic Interiors curated the furniture, textiles, accessories, and styling throughout the home, completing the transition from an extraordinary structure into a place that truly belongs to the family who envisioned it. Four and a Half Years. One Extraordinary Home. There is something incredibly special about standing inside a finished home after being part of its story for more than four years. We watched The Andalusian move from plans and possibilities to walls and beams, then to stone, lighting, cabinetry, furnishings—and finally, to a home. Thousands of decisions ultimately became one singular vision. The Andalusian is a celebration of Spanish heritage interpreted for modern California living. It is a home built around craftsmanship, gathering, and family—and a reminder that the most remarkable interiors aren't created all at once. They are layered, considered, and built over time. For Chic Interiors, being entrusted with a family's dream home at this scale is something we will always consider an honor. THE ANDALUSIAN 12,000 square feet. 10 acres. 4½ years in the making. A legacy home designed to feel as though it has always been there.
